The Magnificent Seven Blu-ray review |

Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 epic The Seven Samurai is westernized in John Sturges’ thrilling adventure The Magnificent Seven. Academy Award Winner Yul Brynner plays Chris, a mercenary hired to protect a Mexican farming village from its annual invasion by bandit Calvera (Eli Wallach). The Magnificent Seven also featured landmark performances from Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn. The remaining guns for hire are played by Charles Bronson, Horst Buchholz and Robert Vaughn. Also featuring Brad Dexter, and set against Elmer Bernstein’s Oscar-Nominated score, the film is rightfully considered one of the great westerns of all time, and contains some of the greatest gun fights ever captured on screen.

The Magnificent Seven is filled to the brim with action, but screenwriter William Roberts manages to wholly develop each of the film’s characters, making for a compelling, drama and humor-filled, thrill ride.
