Attorney Burt Pugach was married and in his mid-thirties in 1957 when he first asked receptionist Linda Riss out on a date. They had an affair that lasted one year before Riss broke it off, convinced that Pugach would never divorce his wife. Pugach desperately tried to convince her to give him a second chance and began stalking her. When that failed and he learned she was set to wed another man, he hired a thug to throw lye into Riss’s face in order to scar her for life, and ended up blinding her in one eye. The crime earned Pugach a fifteen-to-thirty year prison sentence, but remarkably, less than a year after he was released from prison, Linda Riss and Burt Pugach were married. The documentary Crazy Love shares the details of the strange romance, and how they have stayed together for thirty years.
