Art house filmmaker Wong Kar-wai’s next film will be his take on Wing Chun master Yip Man, best known as Bruce Lee’s martial arts instructor. The film, titled The Grandmasters, stars dramatic actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai, along with Zhang Ziyi and Chang Chen. The action director is the legendary Yuen Woo-ping, who handled those same duties on The Matrix Trilogy and Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. I love the fact that one of my favorite dramatic directors is experimenting with the martial arts genre, but I don’t understand why he chose a subject that was so recently covered in multiple movie projects (Donnie Yen’s Ip Man series).
