The dark side of live-action role playing results in The Wild Hunt on DVD

The world of live-action role playing was the source of comedy in the hit Role Models, but it’s the dark and deadly side of the culture that’s at the center of the frightening thriller The Wild Hunt, which is coming to DVD FilmBuff and MPI Home Video on June 7, 2011.

Sometimes fiction can be more dangerous than reality, especially when it involves dungeons, dragons and deranged game players. When Erik’s girlfriend leaves him for another man – a man entrenched in the world of live-action role play (LARP) – he has no choice but to pack up and follow her, plunging himself into a strange and disorienting world where people take their medieval costumes and rules of play very seriously – and where “playing” can have deadly consequences.

As Erik (Ricky Mabe, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, the upcoming Goon) stumbles through this world of Vikings, Celts and elves, rules are broken, jealousies inflamed, and the game turns frighteningly real. With The Wild Hunt director Alexandre Franchi, in his award-winning directorial debut, accomplishes the near impossible, crafting a dark and twisting thriller set entirely in the world of LARPing. Shot on location in an actual Quebec village built specifically for LARP, The Wild Hunt blurs the line between fantasy and reality.

The Wild Hunt also stars Kaniehtiio Horn (18 to Life, the upcoming On the Road with Kristen Stewart), Mark A. Krupa (The Last Templar) and Trevor Hayes (I’m Not There). The movie won the Best Canadian First Feature Award at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2010 Slamdance Film Festival.
