Jackson’s Lovely Bones goes to DreamWorks

Peter Jackson will direct an adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel, The Lovely Bones, which has just been acquired by Dreamworks after a week of bidding from all the major studios. Jackson began shopping his own script for the $80 million project last week. DreamWorks will produce alongside Film 4, and Jackson’s own WingNut Films. Production is set to begin in October 2007 in Pennsylvania and New Zealand.

The Lovely Bones is the story of a 14-year-old girl from suburban Pennsylvania who is murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from Heaven, showing the lives of those around her and how they changed, while also attempting to get someone to find her body.
