Seeing this preview made Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King come to mind. I love films that explore male relationships that help bring us men to a better place within ourselves, and not need feel it’s just gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that). But so much of male relationships on screen are ‘let’s go kill somethin’, or ‘let’s go get some tail’ (maybe there’s nothing wrong with that either).
I like everything about Reign Over Me. The character study of a man (Adam Sandler), that has lost his family in the 9/11 attacks, and the former college roommate, now dentist (Don Cheadle), who helps him begin his road to recovery. There’s a wealth of talent in Reign Over Me, including the aforementioned leads, as well as Jada Pinkett Smith (Ali, Collateral, Madagascar), Saffron Burrows (Perfect Creature), Liv Tyler (Inventing The Abbotts, The Lord of the Rings), and Cicely Tyson (The Rosa Parks Story).
Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger) wrote and directs the moving drama, which hits theaters on March 9, 2007.
