David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen re-team for Eastern Promises sequel

Empire and DeadlineHollywood report that David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen will be spending some quality time together, with news that the pair will be lensing two projects including The Talking Cure and a follow-up to the smart Russian gangster thriller Eastern Promises.

There were no details given on Eastern Promises 2, and it’s unclear whether Naomi Watts will return, but producer Paul Webster has confirmed that Eastern Promises’ screenwriter Steven Knight is on board for the sequel and that he hopes the film begins shooting next winter.

The Talking Cure meanwhile is based on a book by Christopher Hampton, and centers on the intense relationship between Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), and how that gave birth to psychoanalysis.

This will make the third and fourth collaboration between the two, after A History of Violence and the original Eastern Promises.
