Gossip Girl gets gobbled up by Piranha 3D

Dimension Films has confirmed that “Gossip Girl” Jessica Szohr, has joined previously announced cast members Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott and Dina Meyer in the upcoming film PIRANHA 3D. E Online broke the news earlier today, that Szohr will appear in the Alexandre Aja-directed remake of the cult classic horror film.

As with the original, Piranha 3D revolves around a lakeside town being terrorized by prehistoric razor-toothed man-eating fish. As the title hints, the new film will be in 3-D.

Szohr is attached to play the character Kelly, a hot young townie caught up in the excitement of co-eds who have descended upon the area for spring break.

Elisabeth Shue is already attached to play the town’s sheriff, along with Ving Rhames as one of her deputies and Adam Scott as a Navy diver sent in to help solve the town’s horrifying crisis. Richard Dreyfuss will be featured in a nod to his work in the man-eating fish horror classic, Jaws.

Piranha 3D starts lensing later this month in Lake Havasu, Arizona, and is scheduled for release on March 19, 2010.

After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.
