Canada-based Legacy Filmworks and comicbook publisher Arcana Studios have teamed to produce a slate of five films based on Arcana’s comic titles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The first will be the sci-fi thriller Paradox with Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Andromeda), that will be helmed by Brenton Spencer (Stargate: Atlantis). Sorbo will play homicide detective Sean Nault, a cop on a parallel Earth whose technology is powered exclusively by magic, who investigates a series of murders committed by the power of science. Christos and Ruth Fletcher Gage wrote the script, based on their own three-issue limited series. The Gages also previously wrote the 2001 film The Breed and have written episodes of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU.
Other projects on tap include Chopper, a thriller based on a Martin Shapiro comic, and Sundown, a Western vampire thriller, based on a Jay Busbee comic. Both of those projects are looking to begin production early next year.
