Rob Cohen to helm Middle Ages action epic instead of XXX Part 3

Director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) has backed out of reteaming with Vin Diesel on XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, according to Variety. Instead, he’s decided to develop a blockbuster action film the director calls The Magnificent Seven (which is really Seven Samurai) in the Middle Ages, for New Regency.

New Regency acquired the spec script by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. McG (Terminator Salvation) is attached as a producer on the project. The studio has kept the script under wraps, but sources say the action brings together warriors from divergent cultures.

Cohen told the paper that the aim is to get the project into production by October of this year.
