Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, TV’s Smallville) are writing a new draft of the live-action Robotech movie adaptation for Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote The Empire Strikes Back, wrote a previous version of the screenplay.
Robotech was a 1980s anime series that takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from technology found on a crashed alien spacecraft. Mankind uses the technology to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two young pilots.
