Can Battle: Los Angeles director make for a better Clash of the Titans sequel 3D experience?

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has closed a deal for Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) to direct Clash of the Titans 2, with production gearing up on February 1st in the UK. According to the report, talks were stalled on the deal due to money, but apparently the studio ponied up with more dinero.

This year’s remake, The Clash of the Titans – which starred Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, Nicholas Hoult, Alexa Davalos and Danny Huston – suffered from complaints surrounding the poor-quality 3D conversion, among other things. But the film still made a boatload of money. Plus, bringing on a talented director like Liebesman – who has a good track record with quality films – could make for a sequel that improves on the first (of course that’s not a difficult task). However, reports indicate that Liebesman will shoot in 2D, with Warner Bros and Legendary looking to get a better transition to 3D, which could scare away audiences, even if the quality is improved.
