Zack Snyder (300, upcoming Watchmen) has signed a deal to develop three original video games for Electronic Arts, according to Variety. The deal is similar to one made by the company, with Steven Spielberg back in 2005. The first result of that collaboration, a puzzle game for the Wii called Boom Blox, was released this past spring to rave reviews and so-so sales.
Snyder will work with EA’s Los Angeles studio to produce his games. EA may turn some or all of the game projects into films that will be produced by Snyder’s production company, Cruel & Unusual Films.
Warners’ is making two downloadable games connected to Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen, and Brash Entertainment is doing one based on his 300. According to the report, EA is now focused on creating new game properties, that can be translated into multiple media, including film, comics, web and mobile. The studio has two titles, Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge, coming out this fall with animation, comicbook and other tie-ins. The company’s next collaboration with Spielberg will be a science-fiction tale about a secret agent and an android.
