Paramount is in talks with Star Trek’s Chris Pine and director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) to join the true-life drama The Art of Making Money, with an eye towards beginning production early next year, according to Variety. Brian Robbins, Sharla Sumpter and Brad Weston will produce ‘Money’ from a screenplay by Frank Baldwin, who penned a script for Warner Bros. upcoming Tokyo Underworld adaptation.
Paramount nabbed the project’s rights, based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article by Jason Kersten, who turned the report into the book The Art of Making Money: The Story of a Master Counterfeiter, which was published last summer by Gotham. Pine – who’s currently starring with Denzel Washington in the Tony Scott-directed Fox train thriller Unstoppable – would play Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago resident who went from petty theft to said master counterfeiter.
