Recently THR reported that the Weinstein Company and Miramax Films’ new owners had inked a deal to exploit Miramax’s vast library of cult classics for sequel and TV projects. One of the announced projects is Bad Santa 2, a sequel to the new cult classic “holiday” film, which starred Billy Bob Thornton and Tony Cox as conmen posing as Santa and his Little Helper to rob department stores on Christmas Eve.

Other potential sequels and TV projects announced by the Weinstein’s and new Miramax CEO Mike Lang are Shakespeare in Love, Rounders, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Copland, From Dusk Till Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance and The Amityville Horror.

The deal adds to several sequels the Weinstein Company is already producing as part of their legacy deal with Disney, which granted them the right to remake a number of titles, including Scream 4, which is due out April 15th, Spy Kids 4, coming Aug. 19th, and Scary Movie 5.

There is also talk of doing a TV series based on the Doug Liman-directed, Jon Favreau-penned 1996 cult classic comedy Swingers.

The Miramax library includes four best picture Oscar winners among movies that received 284 nominations and a total of 68 Oscars. Besides the titles already in discussions, those include Reservoir Dogs, Chicago, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, My Left Foot, Cinema Paradiso, Life is Beautiful, Amélie, Kill Bill, Volume I and II, No Country for Old Men and Hellraiser (although, I believe there’s already a remake of Hellraiser in development).
