Old Spice Guy swaps appearance in one Tyler Perry movie for starring role in another

“Old Spice Guy” Isaiah Mustafa – who’s commercials for that brand have gained a cult following – won’t appear in Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Instead, the actor will take a lead role in Perry’s latest installment of the “Madea” franchise, he told THR.

“I got a call from my manager a week and a half ago who told me that I was no longer in ‘Colored Girls’ and said I would be in ‘Madea’s Big Happy Family’ instead,” Mustafa said. “It was confirmed last Monday, and I left on Friday to begin filming.”

Mustafa will star alongside Loretta Devine and Bow Wow, as Calvin, a man struggling with his marriage and family relationships.

He’s unclear the reason for the switch, but happy, telling the trade “I don’t know why Mr. Perry made the swap…I didn’t ask him his reasoning. I’m just really happy to have gotten this role. It’s one of the leads, where in ‘Colored Girls,’ I would have been just been in one or two scenes.”

Shooting on Madea’s Big Happy Family starts this week in Atlanta, and will run through early September.
