Asian cult cinema to bloody Comic-Con, plus exclusive pics from Mutant Girls Squad & Con screenings

These are the kind of panels and film screenings I love to attend. They’re just so much fun – plus having the filmmakers there to discuss the carnage takes it over the top. FUNimation Entertainment has set up a panel and Friday night film screenings for Tokyo gore and cult film favorites Alien vs. Ninja and Mutant Girls Squad during San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

Things kick off on Thursday, July 22nd, from 8:15 – 9:15 p.m., during the panel The Sushi Typhoon: The Best in Japanese Genre Movies, which will feature horror, sci-fi, action and splatter comedy films from Japan, the most popular new genre in fandom.

Join the creators of Tokyo Gore Police, The Machine Girl, Suicide Club, Ichi the Killer, Battlefield Baseball, Meatball Machine and many other Cult Cinema Icons, as they usher in The Sushi Typhoon, an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of Japanese genre moviemaking about to land on our shores, in partnership with Funimation Entertainment.

Director Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police), actor Masanori Mimoto (The Ultimate Versus), actress Mika Hijii (Ninja), and producer Yoshinori Chiba (Yatterman) will be on hand for a special launch presentation introducing American audiences to the new label, featuring guest Q&A’s, trailers for Alien vs. Ninja and Mutant Girls Squad, along with an exclusive first look preview of Nishimura’s upcoming zombie epic Helldriver.

The Sushi Typhoon: The Best in Japanese Genre Movies panel takes place in Room 5AB.

POST UPDATED:

FUNimation will be distributing titles from The Sushi Typhoon on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011, as well as booking film festivals and special screenings (oh, how I long to be in college again!).
