New Batman animated feature to premiere at SDCC 2010 plus some cool poster art

Batman: Under the Red Hood will have its world premiere screening during San Diego Comic-Con 2010, presented by Warner Home Video, Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation. Batman: Under the Red Hood is the eighth entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe animated original feature films.

In the film, Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when The Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened.

The voice cast is led by Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), John DiMaggio (Futurama), Jason Issacs (the Harry Potter films), and Vincent Martella (Phineas & Ferb). Executive producer Bruce Timm, director Brandon Vietti (Superman/Doomsday), award-winning comics writer Judd Winick, casting director Andrea Romano and members of the voice cast will be present for a post-screening panel that will reveal details behind the making of the film, a glimpse of the 2011 DC Universe Animated Original Movies slate, and a first look at the next DCU film – Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

Warner Home Video will distribute Batman: Under the Red Hood on Blu-Ray, DVD and On-Demand beginning July 27, 2010.

The Batman: Under the Red Hood world premiere will take place on Friday, July 23rd, from 8:00-10:00 p.m., in Ballroom 20. According to the SDCC schedule, there will also be an encore screening in the same room beginning at 10:15 p.m.

When a spaceship splashes down in Gotham Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as Superman’s. When Darkseid gets wind of this, he has the Kryptonian abducted and brought under his control on Apokolips. It’s up to Batman and Superman to retrieve the Kryptonian, forcing them to infiltrate Darkseid’s hostile world where superpowerful threats lurk around every corner. This story is based on Jeff Loeb’s popular mini-series from the Superman/Batman comic books.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is being directed by Lauren Montgomery, who also helmed Superman/Doomsday and the brilliant Wonder Woman animated movie for the series.
