Blake Lively (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Gossip Girl) has been cast as the female lead opposite Ryan Reynolds in Warner Bros.’ upcoming live-action Green Lantern film, according to THR’s Heat Vision Blog.

According to reports, Lively will play Carol Ferris, who runs her father’s aerospace company and hires test pilot Hal Jordan (Reynolds), who later becomes the Green Lantern. In the comics, the two had a romance that was complicated after an alien race bestowed her the power of a crystal called the Star Sapphire.

Keri Russell and Jennifer Garner were reportedly among those in the running for the coveted role in the Martin Campbell (Casino Royale)-directed film.

Producers are said to now have their sights set on casting the roles of Dr. Hector Hammond, and the powerful alien Sinestro, two key villains from the comic series.

Green Lantern is scheduled to lense in Louisiana this March, with an eye towards a June 17, 2011 release, based on a script by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, with Michael Goldenberg currently rewriting.
