Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) are set to star opposite James Marsden in Screen Gems reimagining of Straw Dogs, based on the cult classic 1971 Sam Peckinpah thriller, according to Variety.

Rod Lurie (Resurrecting the Champ, Nothing But the Truth) wrote the screenplay and will direct the new film. Shooting is scheduled to begin in August.

The setting in the new film moves from rural England to the deep south, as Marsden, in the role originally played by Dustin Hoffman, stars as a Hollywood screenwriter who relocates with his wife to her hometown in Mississippi. Bosworth plays the wife (originally Susan George), who left the South for Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, but returns home so her husband can finish his script in piece. Skarsgard plays her high school boyfriend, an ex-football hero who sees the return of his former girlfriend as a way to rekindle old feelings.
