First trailer for Yuen Woo-ping epic True Legend starring Vincent Chiu, David Carradine and Michelle Yeoh

Kung Fu Cinema posted this first look at legendary Yuen Woo-ping’s upcoming action film, True Legend, which marks his first feature directing project since his 1996 movie Iron Monkey 2 (Gaai tau saat sau) with Donnie Yen. The teaser trailer blends film footage with behind-the-scenes clips of the director at work.

True Legend also marks the return of wushu star Vincent Chiu (The Blade) to feature films after spending the last nine years starring in martial arts-driven TV productions in China.

Chiu portrays legendary martial arts folk hero Su Qi-er, better known as Beggar Su. In Yuen’s update, Su is a wealthy man living during the Qing Dynasty who loses his fortune and reputation as a result of a conspiracy against him. After being forced out into the streets, he dedicates his life to martial arts and reemerges as a patriotic hero known as the King of Beggars.

Also starring in the film is Michelle Yeoh, Cung Le, Jay Chou, Andy On, Conan Stevens and the late David Carradine.

According to reports, True Legend is due in Asian theaters sometime this year, with other distribution pending.
