I saw footage from Imagi Animation’s upcoming computer-animated Astro Boy movie at New York Comic Con over the weekend, at the Summit Entertainment panel moderated by IGN Movies editor-in-chief Eric Moro. Also revealed were detailed concept designs for the film’s characters and technology. Based on the beloved Japanese manga by Osamu Tezuka, the adaptation will tell the origin story of the little robot boy with superpowers.

The panel began with a slideshow revealing a batch of Astro Boy concept design models, which detailed the character’s arm cannons, the transformation of his feet into rocket-propelled legs and the audience audience broke into laughter when a slide unveiled his butt cannons.

The look of Astro Boy’s home, Metro City, was also revealed, as well as and his nemesis, the evil Peacekeeper robot.

The two minutes of footage shown wasn’t much more than the teaser trailer has already revealed – Astro Boy flying around. However it showed him in more locales, and revealed additional Metro City locations, so that was kinda nice.

Astro Boy flies into theaters on October 23, 2009.
