Image Entertainment announced that it has acquired rights to the film In the Electric Mist, starring Academy Award-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones. The film comes on the heels of Jones’ performances in No Country for Old Men, which won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Picture and In the Valley of Elah, which garnered Jones an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
In the Electric Mist is based on the best-selling novel by James Lee Burke. Tommy Lee Jones plays Burke’s legendary detective, Dave Robicheaux, as he investigates a series of gruesome murders and hunts down an elusive serial killer in Iberia parish, Louisiana. Dave will have to take the law into his own hands as he confronts a colorful and deadly mobster, “Baby Feet” Balboni (John Goodman), and races to save the victim of a kidnapping. But only a crime committed forty years before will tie all the threads together in this stylish, atmospheric thriller set in the sultry, secretive world of the Louisiana bayous.
The film also stars Mary Steenburgen (Step Brothers, I Am Sam), Ned Beatty (Charlie Wilson’s War, Shooter) and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead, Flightplan).
In the Electric Mist was directed by Bertrand Tavernier (‘Round Midnight, Safe Passage, Life and Nothing But, Coup de Torchon, A Sunday in the Country) and produced by Michael Fitzgerald (The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, Color Me Kubrick, The Pledge, Mister Johnson, Under the Volcano, Wise Blood).
The film is slated for release in spring 2009.
