HBO and New Line to Purchase Newmarket Films

Variety just reported that HBO and New Line Cinema have announced that they will purchase specialty film label NewMarket Films. NewMarket will be conbined with New Line’s existing specialty label, Fine Line Films.

Current Newmarket chief Bob Berney is expected to lead the new division with HBO domestic distribution head Dennis O’Connor handling releasing.

NewMarket has been a titan among indies as of late, distributing such hits as The Woodsman, Memento, Whale Rider, Donnie Darko, The Passion of the Christ and Monster, with Charlize Theron (which won her an Oscar for Best Actress).
