Frank Frazetta Documentary to Premiere on IFC |

PAINTING WITH FIRE, the only full length feature documentary on the life and work of living legend FRANK FRAZETTA, will finally get its television premiere on the Independent Film Channel on Saturday, August 28th at 8:00 pm eastern time. The indie friendly channel will also show the film at least 2 moree times that same evening.

For those of you who don’t know, FRANK FRAZETTA was one of the most prolific and original science fiction and fantasy painters of the 20th Century. A man before his time, his visions of the macabre have influenced countless writers and filmmakers. The surreal landscapes that inhabit his canvases seem to come to life, and make the viewer feel like they are a part of the action.

I think the most amazing thing about his work is the fact that it was done without the use of any of the fancy technology and assistance that many artists have at their disposal today. Many of his characters in fact were painted from his own imagination. Sometimes he would simply pose in a mirror while painting.

FRAZETTA has created book covers for many well know science fiction writers, most notably ISAAC ASIMOV. I think it’s safe to say that most comic book artists have been influenced and inspired to become artists because of FRAZETTA. You can clearly see the influence of his work on luminaries like FRANK MILLER and BERNIE WRIGHTSON.
