While the final domestic summer scoreboard won’t be tallied until Labor Day has come and gone, there’s no need to wait for that typically blah holiday weekend to play itself out. It’s already clear who this summer’s winners were:
- “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (20th Century Fox) with over $379 million.
- “War of the Worlds” (Paramount and DreamWorks) with about $232 million.
- “Batman Begins” (Warner Bros.) with over $203 million.
- “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (Warner Bros.) with about $198 million.
- “Madagascar” (DreamWorks) with about $191 million.
- “Wedding Crashers” (New Line) with about $188 million.
- “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (Fox) with about $184 million.
- “The Longest Yard” (Paramount) with about $158 million.
- “Fantastic Four” (Fox) with about $152 million.
As a group, these nine films took in approximately $1.89 billion.
