Jimi Hendrix biopic in the works from Legendary Pictures

Legendary Pictures is currently prepping a feature film about legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, according to Variety.

Thomas Tull would produce the film with Bill Gerber, working from a script by Max Borenstein, who recently wrote What Is Life Worth?, a fact-based drama about attorney Kenneth Feinberg and his work on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

The company hopes to solve rights issues that have prevented previous major Hendrix projects from getting off the ground, by developing the project first, and then attempting to win the cooperation from Hendrix’s estate.

There have been many attempts to develop a Hendrix movie over the years, with Lenny Kravitz and Outkast’s Andre Benjamin on the short list to star, but no one has been able to strick a deal with Experience Hendrix, an organization run by the late musician’s stepsister, Janie Hendrix, which runs the musician’s estate. Legendary has been in loose negotiations with the estate, but no formal deals have been reached.
