Michael Mann and Paul Haggis teaming up for modern day treasure hunt thriller

Michael Mann is teaming up with Paul Haggis for a contemporary thriller called Gold, according to THR. The film is described as being in the vein of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and is set around a ruthless search for the namesake metal.

Gold was written by Friday Night Lights and The Chicago Code writer/co-exec producers Patrick Massett and John Zinman.

Haggis was initially drawn to the script, about the prospectors and speculators on the hunt for gold, as a directing vehicle, but other projects took his attention. He presented it to Mann, who was also apparently attracted to the story.

Mann acquired Gold for his Forward Pass productions, and will potentially direct the eventual film project, and also produce alongside Haggis and Michael Nozik. The plan is to develop and package the project before setting it up at a studio. No actors are attached.
