Horror legend John Carpenter hops into producer’s chair for The Hell Within

Benito Mueller and Wolfgang Mueller of Barry Films today announced that cult cinema icon John Carpenter will serve as executive producer for the film project The Hell Within. Carpenter is teaming up with award-winning Brazilian director Dennison Ramalho – who directed the shorts Ninjas, Nocturnu and Love from Mother Only – and scribe Jeff Buhler – who penned The Midnight Meat Train adaptation. Barry Films will produce The Hell Within, which is based on an original idea by Ramalho, together with Storm King Productions’ Sandy King.

The Hell Within tells the story of a woman who goes on a quest into the heart of a Brazilian jungle to save a girl, only to discover that the girl was just the bait.

Benito Mueller said, “We are very excited to have John Carpenter as a partner. Not only is he bringing great visibility to the project, he is also a great asset for director Dennison Ramalho to work with.”

Dennison Ramalho added, “John Carpenter re-wrote the landscape of horror with his seminal shape-shifting monster film The Thing, so I am obviously thrilled to have him on board. Our film has a similar component…”

The Hell Within will be a Brazilian/German co-production and will be shot in the Amazon jungles of Brazil. Barry Films is currently in production at the MMC Studios Cologne on When Pigs Have Wings, an off-beat look at the Gaza conflict, in coproduction with Marilyn Productions and Saga Film, and in post-production on The Bad Intentions, a Peruvian tale in the tradition of South American magic realism.
