First images arrive for the Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson collaboration of the Tintin adaptation

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have released the first glimpse from their collaboration effort The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, based on the Belgium comic books “Le secret de la licorne” and “Le trésor de Rackham Le Rouge”, by Hergé. Steven Spielberg is directing the project, with Peter Jackson & Spielberg producing, and Jackson’s Weta Digital handling effects duties. The images are part of an Empire Magazine exclusive preview of the project that includes a Weta Workshop-created cover.

The Adventures of Tintin also stars Simon Pegg, Daniel Craig, Cary Elwes, Nick Frost, Tony Curran, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, Sebastian Roché, Daniel Mays, Phillip Rhys, Mark Ivanir, Gad Elmaleh, Sonje Fortag, Enn Reitel, Jacquie Barnbrook and Kim Stengel, and centers on Tintin and his friends discovering directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and going on a treasure hunt. The film is expected to be in theaters December 28, 2011.
