Mao’s Last Dancer, from acclaimed director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Tender Mercies), has been dazzling audiences around the world, and now it’s America’s turn. The film opens on Friday, August 20th in select cities, and if you’re in the New York City area, you can register now for a chance to get two free tickets for a special sneak preview on Wednesday, August 18th.

Mao’s Last Dancer is based on the autobiography of Li Cunxin, who, at the age of 11, was plucked from a poor Chinese village by Madame Mao’s cultural delegates and taken to Beijing to study ballet. In 1979, during a cultural exchange to Texas, he fell in love with an American woman. Two years later, he managed to defect and went on to perform as a principal dancer for the Houston Ballet and as a principal artist with the Australian Ballet.

The film stars Bruce Greenwood, Kyle MacLachlan, Joan Chen, Chi Cao, Amanda Schull, Shuangbao Wang, Chengwu Guo, Wen Bin Huang, Aden Young, Madeleine Eastoe, Camilla Vergotis, Penne Hackforth-Jones, Jack Thompson, Christopher Kirby and Suzie Steen.
