Producers of Summit Entertainment’s third Twilight film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, have cast Catalina Sandino Moreno (Love in the Time of Cholera), to play the vampire Maria, according to THR.
Moreno will take on the role of a woman who tries to create a newborn army of vampires, recruiting a Confederate soldier named Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) into her cause. In Stephenie Meyer’s book, Maria is described as a petite brunette with a soft voice, according to the report.
The actress joins the just-cast Jack Huston, along with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Bryce Dallas Howard, in the fast-developing film.
Moreno most notably starred in the 2004 film Maria Full of Grace, in which she was nominated for an Oscar for playing a pregnant teacher who becomes a drug mule. She also recently appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s two part epic biography of Ernesto Che Guevara.
