According to an article on The Daily Beast (via Empire) George Clooney apparently has an interest in taking on the role of CIA wunderkind Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy character previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. The last appearance of Ryan on-screen was the Phil Alden Robinson-directed Sum Of All Fears in 2002, which starred Affleck in an origin story about how Ryan rose up in the ranks of the CIA to a top-shelf analyst, while thwarting the plans of a terrorist faction threatening to detonate a nuclear weapon at a football game.
According to reports, Paramount has been attempting to relaunch the character ever since ‘Fears’, with stories indicating that they were going for a James Bond-style reboot with a younger actor taking the reigns.
Note that all the articles I read indicate this is all rumour and hearsay right now, but Clooney as Ryan sounds like a great choice to me.
