Fox is producing a remake of it’s own 1984 action comedy classic Romancing the Stone, and has hired Daniel McDermott (who penned Eagle Eye) to write it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original was one of Robert Zemeckis’ early gigs as a director, and turned Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito, into film stars.

The original film told the story of a romance writer sets off to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister, and soon finds herself in the middle of a dangerous adventure.

Film Fetish Trivia: McDermott is also developing an adventure project for Tom Cruise, aptly titled Adventurer’s Club and working on a remake of the Charleton Heston cult sci-fi classic Soylent Green, for Warner Bros.

Below is a trailer for the original Romancing the Stone.
