Chilean TV series to premiere on U.S. cable net

Sorpresa, a fast-growing Spanish-language children’s net, will launch popular live-action Chilean teen TV series, Karku, for U.S. Hispanic tween and teen audiences on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET. The premiere is part of the network’s back-to-school celebration.

Set in metropolitan Santiago, Chile, Karku is the first TV series for kids produced in Latin America that follows a telenovela format. The premiere season of Karku follows Emilia and her friends, Fernanda, Valentina, Zico, Alex and Martín, as they work together to earn money for their school’s year-end trip. The series not only represents the reality of the teenage world – their language, their music, their dreams and their fears – but it also promotes traditional values like diligence, teamwork and friendship.

New episodes of the show will premiere on Sorpresa on every Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
