John Mctiernan was set to direct after David Cronenberg left the project because producer Mario Kassar of C-2 Pictures refused to allow him to use his own cinematographer, production designer and the rest of his usual team.
First of all, Robert Downey Jr was set to star but had to drop out when he was charged with drug possession.
Pierce Brosnan refused to play the male lead role because of distasteful elements.
