Updates on City of Golden Armor and Battle of Red Cliff

Zhang Yimou’s next epic film, The City of Golden Armor, which recently sold to more than 13 European countries, will soon complete filming in China. I have posted links to some set shots and video clips, in the Film Library.

John Woo gets back to basics with The Battle of Red Cliff (The War of the Red Cliff). When I heard about this film, it reminded me of one of my favorite Woo films, Bullet in the Head, although that film is more about survival, and the cost of war, rather than war itself. He recently cast model Lin Chi-Ling to the historical war epic, due to start lensing in March 2007, with pre-production in Fall of 2006. It’s based on a novel by Guanzhong Luo.

Other, not nearly so prestigious projects on the horizon for John Woo include:

Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, starring The Rock, which is based on the popular video game series.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, based on the animated series, He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, goes against the evil Skeletor to save the planet Eternia and protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull.

The Red Circle, about a cop looks to crack an unsolved heist engineered by a recently paroled thief and a fugitive murderer. The Red Circle was originally written by Jean-Pierre Melville (The Good Thief) and Jeff Pinkner, who was a producer on the TV series Alias, did a rewrite on the script.
