Director George Miller recently appeared on Australia’s ABC News and discussed the progress of Mad Max 4.

“All the vehicles are sort-of hybrids cobbled together from the wrecks of the past,” said the director, standing over one example. “They’ll have to be very high performance because the film is shot at speed. The reason this movie’s so big is it’s got just a huge number of stunts. We’re trying to do stuff that I believe people haven’t done before.”

MIller also said it will take another year to complete the cars, because the nature of the stunts dictates that level of detail and work.

Regarding casting, he says that everyone is a possibility, stressing that no decisions have been made. He even surprisingly including Mel Gibson as one of his options, who has been long thought to be too old and not interested in returning to the iconic, leather-clad trousers of the Road Warrior. He went on to lament the serious dearth of talent that stay in Australia because of the intermittent production system.
