Tim Burton and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, the team responsible for bringing the animated steampunk vision 9 to the screen, are teaming up to bring Seth Grahame-Smith’s fantasy novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – which hit bookstores yesterday – to theaters, according to THR’s HeatVisionBlog.
Grahame-Smith, who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which combined zombies and Jane Austen, will write the script for the upcoming film. ‘Zombies‘ is also in the pipeline, with a deal at Lionsgate and Natalie Portman producing and attached to direct.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter reimagines the U.S. president as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin, promising to give new context to actual historical events including the Civil War and Lincoln’s rise to the White House. The book starts with his mother’s murder when he was a young boy and his promise of revenge.
