Season 3, Episode 4, "Last Supper," which originally aired on January 31, 1997. This was the ending quote by the show's Narrator (Kevin Conway), after an episode that centered on the girlfriend (Sandrine Holt) of a young man in college (Fred Savage). When the student brings his new love interest home to meet his parents, his father (Peter Onorati) recognizes her as the same woman he rescued from cruel experiments when he was a private in the army 20 years prior. He also had an affair with the woman after the rescue.

Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced.

I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of color to minimize us, to break us down and demonize us. We must recognize our obligation to decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences and systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.

I want Meghan’s daughter, my daughter and your daughter to live in a society that is driven by respect.

Stanley Donen was a friend and an early mentor. His generosity in giving over so many of his weekends in the late 60’s to film students like me to learn about telling stories and placing lenses and directing actors is a time I will never forget. He co-directed what some consider the greatest Hollywood musical of all time Singing In the Rain but when he left his partnership with Gene Kelly to go it alone he made his most compelling movies in multiple genres. Charade, Bedazzled and Two For the Road were my favorites. When visiting New York I will miss not bumping into him on his daily walks and hear him talking about life and film which for Stanley were inseparable.
