Universal Studios Hollywood announced in Twitter that construction officially began on the Fast & Furious-theme roller coaster at the theme park resort. A Universal press release indicates the ride will be equipped with a state-of-the-art ride system uniquely created to engulf guests within the Fast & Furious universe.

At the time construction started, Universal Studios Hollywood already featured the ride Fast & Furious – Supercharged, also based on the long-running franchise. Featured on The World-Famous Studio Tour, Supercharged features a partly virtual high-speed chase that exceeds 120 miles per hour, catapulting riders into the high-stakes underworld of fast cars and international crime cartels. Riders are engulfed in a world of cutting-edge, hyper-realistic special effects, including 3D-HD imagery projected onto what is described as the world’s most expansive 360-degree video screens.

For more than 20 years, the Fast & Furious franchise has earned more than $7 billion at the global box office, making the Universal Pictures’ franchise the studio’s most-profitable and longest-running in its history.
