New photos from Denzel Washington and the Hughes Brothers’ Book of Eli

The Hughes Brothers’ (From Hell, Menace II Society) are directing Denzel Washington in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Book of Eli, and USA Today has a gallery of the first images from the film. In Book of Eli, a lone man (Washington) fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that may contain the secret to saving humankind.

The actor lost nearly 60 pounds for the role, in which he star opposite Gary Oldman, who plays a town leader interested in acquiring Eli’s book for his own use.
