Denzel Washington is in talks to top-line the thriller Unstoppable, which Tony Scott is directing for Fox this fall, according to Variety.

Washington would play an experienced engineer who boards an unmanned locomotive with a young conductor, to chase down a runaway train carrying a cache of combustible liquids and poisonous gas. Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Race to Witch Mountain) wrote the screenplay for the project, which is inspired by actual events.

Unstoppable would reunite Washington and Scott for their fifth movie project together. Along with Crimson Tide, Man on Fire and Deja Vu, the pair recently completed work on another train-themed thriller, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, which hits theaters on June 12th.

The actor is currently filming the post-apocalyptic thriller Book of Eli for Alcon Entertainment and Silver Pictures, with Allen and Albert Hughes in the director’s chair. ‘Eli’ will be released in early 2010.
