Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre to host Space Invaders: Sci-Fi in the Arcade Age film series

In the latter part of the 1970s, as Star Wars made science fiction a hot commodity, computers came into the mainstream, changing how films were created and consumed. As noted in the description of The Egyptian Theatre’s upcoming sci-fi film screening series, “Space Invaders: Sci-Fi in the Arcade Age,” a new wave of futuristic films catered to fans who pumped quarters into Space Invaders and Asteroids games at video arcades, taking technological advancement as a given.

The screening series will feature some of the most popular cult classics from the era, including The Last Starfighter, Krull, Alien & its sequel Aliens, Blade Runner, Tron and The Black Hole. These were all films that lit up my imagination as a child, embedding ideas that powered my dreams of rocket ships and hair raising adventure.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area and came of age during the 1980’s, this is a must-attend series. It runs through April 26th. Check out the complete schedule, below. The Egyptian Theatre is located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, in Hollywood, California.
