#CultCinemaIcons Batch of action stars headed to Philippines for a Showdown in Manila

Martial artist and actress Cynthia Rothrock just posted a photo and note on Facebook about a new project she’s about to shoot in Manila, apparently called Showdown in Manila. According to FilmCombatSyndicate, Rothrock’s fellow martial arts action alum Mark Dacascos will make his directorial debut on and star in Showdown in Manila, which Rothrock now confirms, will be shot on location in The Philippines.

As noted by the teaser poster, Showdown in Manila co-stars rising action star Alexander Nevsky, along with Dacascos, Rothrock, Matthias Hues, Casper Van Dien, Cynthia Rothrock, Oliver Gruner, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Monsour del Rosario, Tia Carrere and Don “The Dragon” Wilson. I can’t confirm this, but that also looks like Robert Madrid in the lower right corner of the poster Rothrock included in her post.

Based on how Showdown in Manila is shaping up, this could be an ‘Expendables’ for the 80’s martial arts action genre. I love the fact that it’s shooting on location in The Philippines, a destination that ruled for shooting low-budget, high throttle action fare from the 1970’s through the 1990’s. Those were the days when indie producers were able to make movies on shoestring budgets and have the potential to make millions, because movie theaters were not glutted from major studios.

This will be a fun one to watch, along with Mag Pictures’ recent acquisition, Skin Trade, starring Michael Jai White, Tony Jaa, Dolph Lundgren and Ron Perlman. Skin Trade will be released on Ultra VOD April 23rd, and in theaters on May 8, 2015.

Check out the complete quote below, along with the teaser poster she attached.

Day of packing, and running errands off early in the morning for Manila to shoot Show down in Manila, looking forward to doing this film, great cast (many of my friends smile emoticon ) and very excited to work with my friend Mark Dacascos and his dad GM. Al.
