First glimpse – Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor concept art

The first images of what Chris Evans will look like as Captain America have hit the net, via Ain’t It Cool.

JoBlo first saw the images last week, describing them as “resembling the original design but designed to work within the World War II world that director Joe Johnston is creating for the film”.

According to Johnston, this is Steve Rogers’ second and his main costume. He’ll be seen in another version crafted by the USO that’s a little flashier and closer to the original design from comics. This one is a little more practical and designed to come across less cheesy when translated onto movie screens.

Captain America: The First Avenger centers on Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) who, after being deemed unfit for military service, volunteers for a top secret military research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals.

Captain America: The First Avenger, which hits theaters on July 22, 2011, also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt a.k.a. The Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola.

Meanwhile, Collider has gotten their hands on some sweet concept art of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. The images feature the first vision of the Norse god wielding his hammer, Mjolner.

Thor centers on a partially disabled medical student named Donald Blake (Hemsworth), who discovers his heretofore unknown true form, Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. The film also stars Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Thor’s father Odin, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Kat Dennings as Darcy, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Stellan Skarsgård as Selvig, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Rene Russo as Frigga, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Joshua Dallas as Fandral, Joshua Cox as Hailstrum, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Joseph Gatt as Grundroth, along with Eric Allan Kramer, Matt Battaglia, Adriana Barraza, Colm Feore and Matthias Schweighöfer.

Thor, which Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet) is directing, hits theaters on May 6, 2011.
