Basic Instinct writer finds religion in new script

Joe Eszterhas, who wrote the cult classic sexually-charged thriller Basic Instinct, Jagged Edge AND Showgirls (unbelievably) is getting back in the writer’s chair. The writer is developing a story surrounding the virgin of Guadalupe, a mystical vision who appeared to a peasant in 16th century Mexico, who’s widely credited with spreading Catholicism across Latin America.

Eszterhas is working on the as-yet-untitled script for Mpower Pictures, according to Variety, by way of Empire.

The project will be his first major work since An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn in 1997.
