Dimension is eyeing a remake of John Landis’ 1981 cult classic horror An American Werewolf in London, according to BloodDisgusting. Why Why Why Why Why?

Dimension nabbed the rights from Landis himself, who wrote and directed the original comedy/horror, which starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American backpackers hiking in the Yorkshire moors, who are attacked by a mysterious animal who turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton winds up terrorizing London as a beast of the night, while Dunne – who is killed – is reanimated as a rotting corpse who haunts Naughton.

According to reports, Dimension has yet to hire a writer or director, and are looking to make a quality genre film that keeps the comedy elements of the original. Landis is attached to executive producer and possibly consult on the new film.

Dimension is also releasing the upcoming Halloween II at the end of August and is developing a remake of Hellraiser.

I guess you could say this is the second attempt to update An American Werewolf in London, which needs no updating! Anybody remember An American Werewolf in Paris directed by Anthony Waller (Mute Witness)?
