It’s really been a throwback week for me. First, I get a call from a friend I haven’t heard from in more than 10 years. Then a high school friend of mine posts a shot of a bunch other friends on facebook, that had me thinking I was staring at The Bangles in their prime – hair and all! Now, a trailer for a remake of one of the many consumables I devoured on VHS, when I was a teen. Films like this were played over and over again by me and my friends, until the tape would snap and we had to use a butter knife to pry the cassette from the player.

House on Sorority Row was a forgettable film, and lacked the quality of the best of the genre, but films like it are important for a generation that grew up on a steady diet of slasher films in grindhouse movie theaters. The memories it stirs are part of a truly American story, that formed the thoughts, inspirations and opinions of many 30+ to 40 year olds today.

The folks that brought us Twilight, Summit Entertainment, produced Sorority Row, and Stewart Hendler – who directed a short film titled The Closet – is behind the lens. The film is hitting theaters on October 2, 2009, and stars Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis (Bruce Willis’ daughter), Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Julian Morris, Matt O’Leary, Caroline D’Amore, Maxx Hennard, Audrina Patridge, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa), Matt Lanter and Katie Woolridge.

According to the end of the trailer, www.thetapi-ordie.com will be the location of the website. But there’s only a godaddy place-holder page for now.
