Horton Hears director helming bloody Jonah Hex film?

First horror master Takashi Miike directs a “kid’s film” filled with sexy leather-clad girls – and now Warner Bros. chooses a director whose last film’s main character was an elephant, to direct Jonah Hex?

That’s right, director Jimmy Hayward, who helmed the animated Horton Hears a Who!, will make his live-action debut with the adaptation of Jonah Hex, the western thriller based on the DC Comic series.

Josh Brolin is already attached to star in the upcoming film, which previously had Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) attached to direct. The studio hopes to put the movie into production in March or April. Other potential directors for the project, were said to be Andy Fickman (The Game Plan) and McG (Terminator Salvation). Somehow, this character just seems too hard, for all these guys. Not that there aren’t talented, in their own right, but the disfigured Jonah Hex is known for being a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter, whose adventures always ended in blood-soaked gunplay. One incarnation of his comic book series saw the Western genre combined with supernatural elements, and it’s this aspect that was featured in the original script, which the studio will likely keep.
